Project Gigabit Voucher Scheme
The Governments Department of Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) is providing up to £210m worth of voucher funding via the newly announced Project Gigabit Scheme as immediate help for people suffering from slow broadband speeds in rural areas.Residential premises and small businesses can benefit from the voucher scheme to help cover the costs of installing gigabit broadband into your building.
How it works
To qualify for a voucher, you must take a new broadband connection
which meets the scheme rules agreed between us and DCMS:
Your existing broadband speeds are less than 100Mbps
You must at least double your current broadband speed or be faster than 100Mbps (whichever is lower)
The contract for service that you enter in to with us must be for a minimum of 12 months.
Who is eligible?
Homes and businesses in rural locations which meet the following criteria can use vouchers to support the cost of installing new gigabit-capable connections when part of a community project.
A gigabit capable network isn’t likely to be built to that area commercially in the near future
There is no government-funded contract planned or in place to improve the network already
Group projects are when two or more residents and/or eligible businesses get together to combine their vouchers towards the shared cost of installation. Single connections are not eligible for the scheme.
What happens next?
- 1. Are you a Business or a Residential premise?
- 2. Complete the form to register your interest and approval to request a voucher
- 3. We will request a Gigabit voucher from DCMS (we will check and only request a voucher if we have an approved scheme active in your area)
- 4. DCMS will contact you directly via email to confirm your request (you must respond within 28 days)
- 5. DCMS will issue the voucher to you
- 6. Once your voucher has been issued, we will get to work and keep you updated
- 7. When we have completed your connection, DCMS will contact you via email to confirm you are connected (you must respond within 28 days)
Once installed
Payment for vouchers will be made directly to us, not to you or your business/organisation. We will notify DCMS when your connection has been delivered. DCMS will check with you that the connection has been delivered before they pay us.
You will be required to make a declaration that the new service has been installed and is performing as expected.
If you do not make this declaration, DCMS will not be able to pay the voucher to us. You must respond to DCMS requests for information within 28 days or your voucher may be cancelled.
