INSIGHT
DIGITAL POLICING
Policing is changing across the UK. Modern-day policing not only needs to tackle crime as we once knew it, it also needs to rise to the challenge presented by the digital era.
Moreover, in a period of sustained austerity, budget restrictions and a reducing workforce, police services across the country are finding it difficult to ensure a high-quality service is maintained for a growing and ageing population.
In light of the new challenges facing the police service, the Association of Police and Crime Commissioners (APCC) and National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) published the ‘Policing Vision 2025’ in November 2016, setting out a plan to shape the modern-day police force over the course of ten years. The vision goes far beyond making savings or incremental reform, considering how policing as a whole can be transformed with the public at the heart of this Vision.
In partnership with iGov Survey Virgin Media Business investigated the thoughts and attitudes toward the Policing Vision 2025 across the police service, and the challenges and opportunities that this presents.

This survey demonstrates that Police organisations are keen to collaborate and promote local and digital policing underpinned by innovative technology solutions. Legacy infrastructure and conflicting priorities, along with limited budgets, still create a barrier, but with the right digital partner a flexible and connected force can become a reality.
